Health & Safety

Safety First. Always.

Health and Safety at Bloom isn’t just a framework—it’s a shared responsibility built into the way we plan, build, and lead. On our sites, it’s not a checklist—it’s a mindset.

Every project presents its own challenges, whether that’s phased delivery in a tenanted office, structural works in a listed building, or constrained access in a dense urban area. Our teams are trained to think dynamically, adapt calmly, and act decisively to keep people safe.

We don’t treat health and safety as something owned by a single manager or department. From our operatives to our directors, responsibility is distributed. Site leads are expected to lead by example. Subcontractors are selected not just on capability, but on their commitment to safe working practices. And open communication is the norm—because risks are better managed when people feel confident to speak up.

Ultimately, we know that strong safety performance protects more than compliance—it protects quality, programme, and relationships. That’s why it sits at the centre of every decision we make.

Our Approach

We maintain rigorous health and safety standards through detailed planning, real-time monitoring, and continuous improvement. Every site is supported by a qualified Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager, and we operate fully in line with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).

Innovation & Efficiencies

We harness technology to improve safety without increasing administrative burden. Tools like 1Breadcrumb have reduced on-site management time by up to 25%, while still delivering comprehensive compliance monitoring and documentation—essential during audits or inspections.

Dedicated HSE Oversight

Every project is overseen by a qualified HSE Manager and Principal Designer, ensuring compliance from planning through to delivery.

Digital Site Safety Tools

Using platforms like 1Breadcrumb and Procore, we track inductions, compliance, and safety documentation in real time—reducing admin while improving visibility.

Live Monitoring & Inspections

Daily briefings, toolbox talks, and regular site audits keep safety standards high and risks low.

High-Risk Activity Controls

We manage all high-risk tasks with specialist assessments and equipment, fully complying with regulations around working at height, manual handling, hazardous substances (COSHH), and fire safety.

Training & Inductions

All workers undergo detailed site inductions and regular refresher training. We maintain full competency records, including CSCS cards and qualifications.

Certifications & Compliance

We hold ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) accreditation through ISOQAR and are SafeContractor accredited as well as conducting regular internal and third-party audits to verify our high standards.

CDM & Principal Contractor Role

As Principal Contractor, Bloom is responsible for developing Construction Phase Plans, coordinating with designers and the client, and ensuring all contractors work safely. We provide welfare facilities, manage inductions, and maintain constant oversight of health and safety responsibilities across all trades.

Incident Reporting & Continuous Improvement

All incidents and near-misses are logged, investigated, and shared to prevent recurrence. Subcontractor performance is tracked via KPIs, with support given for continuous improvement where needed.

I’m incredibly proud of the health and safety culture we’ve built at Bloom. From the outset, everyone has taken a proactive approach—embedding safe practice into every stage of our projects, not just enforcing it on site. Whether we’re working on a cut-and-carve in a live building or delivering phased refurbishments in public spaces, the focus is always on forward planning, clear communication, and shared responsibility. Our track record speaks to the professionalism of our teams and the care they take every day to protect each other, our clients, and the communities we work in.
