We’re excited to share that Bloom Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the refurbishment and extension of the much-loved Laburnum Boat Club A-Frame clubhouse in Hackney. This meaningful project marks a key opportunity to revitalise a well-used community facility while promoting sustainability and inclusivity.
Working in close collaboration with 4orm Architects, Conisbee Structural Engineers, and project managers Burke Hunter Adams LLP, we will be upgrading the iconic 1980s A-Frame structure to provide a modern, safe, and accessible environment that meets the evolving needs of the community.
Upgrading for the Future
The works will focus on both preservation and enhancement, including:
- Strengthening the existing floor structure
- Extending the building’s footprint
- Replacing cladding, roofing, and glazing
- Upgrading all MEP systems
- Installing a new, all-ability access point
This refurbishment will not only improve the building’s structural integrity and functionality but also enhance comfort, accessibility, and energy efficiency.
A Live Site with a Community Focus
The project will be delivered on a constrained, operational site. Our team is committed to working efficiently and respectfully to minimise disruption to neighbouring businesses, local residents, and—most importantly—the club’s ongoing activities.
ESG-Led Approach
This is an ESG-driven project, with a strong emphasis on reuse of materials, energy efficiency, and community engagement. As part of our social value commitments, we will be running initiatives including:
- A Careers in Construction presentation to inspire the next generation
- A Volunteer Paint Day, giving the local community a chance to get hands-on in the transformation
