Natural History Museum – Phase 1

Bloom is delivering Phase 1 refurbishment works to the Natural History Museum’s palaeontology building, forming part of a wider programme of works across the museum estate while remaining fully operational to the public.

The works include removal of existing roof coverings and installation of a new watertight roofing system across 4,300 sq ft, facilitated by a gantry, access scaffolding and hoist on Exhibition Road. A temporary roof is being installed to protect the building during the works, alongside MEP service relocations and associated refurbishment activities. The project interfaces with the Grade I listed main museum building and requires careful coordination with ongoing operations.

Innovations / Efficiencies realised:

  • A bespoke temporary roofing solution engineered to avoid loading newly completed roofs and eliminate any risk of water ingress to the museum’s collections.
  • Precision logistics planning, including early-morning delivery windows and TfL coordination, enabled works to proceed safely within a high public footfall environment.
  • Live-building refurbishment was delivered without disruption to museum operations, maintaining security integrity and continuous public access throughout.
